Description
The HPC User Forum was established in 1999 to promote the health of the global HPC industry and address issues of common concern to users. In September 2023, the 83rd HPC User Forum took place in Tucson, Arizona. This update summarizes a presentation from that conference given by Simon Burbidge, career HPC systems expert and RSE Team Lead at DiRAC. In addition to providing updates on the Distributed Research Utilizing Advanced Computing (DiRAC) and its application spaces, he also gave an update on UK HPC activities and goals, and how they compare and contrast with other major global players. Burbidge, previously Director of Advanced Computing Research Centre (ACRC) at University of Bristol, began by noting that despite perhaps being lesser known internationally, DiRAC is a substantial and influential element of the UK HPC ecosystem.
