Description
Classiq, a quantum computing (QC) commercial software developer, and Rolls-Royce, a key supplier of advanced jet aircraft engines, recently published a technical blog describing their joint efforts to use QC methods to support computational fluid dynamics (CFD), one of the most demanding areas of engineering computation and a cornerstone of many HPC-based modeling and simulation workloads. The effort studied a hybrid classical-quantum CFD use case that simulates steady flow through a one-dimensional nozzle, including transonic flow with shocks. The HPC-based classical CFD process managed the overall simulation while a quantum linear solver (QLS) updated the simulation’s critical and computationally intensive inner linear system.
