SiPearl, a leading French semiconductor developer, recently announced the successful power‑on of its Rhea1, the company’s first CPU designed for sovereign European supercomputing and AI. With more than 61 billion transistors, the ARM-based Rhea1 is said to be the most complex server CPU ever designed in Europe, while TSMC of Taiwan will handle manufacturing. The Rhea1 will support the CPU cluster module of JUPITER, Europe’s first exascale supercomputer, hosted at the Jülich Supercomputing Center. General availability of Rhea1 is targeted for the end of 2026. The follow-on Rhea2 chip is expected to be used in the forthcoming Alice Recoque, France’s first exascale system, which will serve as a backbone for Europe’s network of AI Factories.
