In his annual shareholder letter released on April 9, 2026, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy highlighted how Amazon’s internal hardware and chip operations have become a core economic driver for the company, stating that if the chips unit were a standalone business selling to AWS and external customers, it would already be running at roughly a $50 billion annual revenue rate. Jassy said AWS currently generates about $20 billion from services powered by Amazon-designed silicon, with demand for Graviton CPUs and Trainium AI accelerators so strong that two large customers asked to buy all available Graviton capacity for 2026 and Trainium3 capacity is nearly fully subscribed. Portions of Trainium4 are already reserved well ahead of launch. He framed the chips as strategic infrastructure and a major financial advantage, projecting tens of billions of dollars per year in capex savings.
