Description
The US Department of Energy’s Genesis Mission, which was announced via executive order in November 2025, represents one of the most ambitious federal investments in scientific computing infrastructure in recent U.S. history. The first Genesis Mission RFA, a $293 million Request for Applications (RFA), invites interdisciplinary teams to leverage novel AI models and frameworks to address over 20 national challenges to accelerate the discovery process of which scientific domains are most amenable to AI acceleration. The breadth of eligible topics is immense, suggesting that the mission’s scientific identity remains undefined. Organizations considering participation should recognize that they appear to be invited not only to propose research but potentially to help define what AI-accelerated national laboratory science will become.
