In May 2026, the 91st HPC User Forum took place in Austin, Texas. This update summarizes a presentation from that conference given by Anastasia Matveeva, co-creator of the Gonka protocol and a researcher in mathematical physics at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona. Matveeva presented an overview of Gonka, a permissionless, verifiable, and decentralized compute network for AI inference and training, and she discussed how federated approaches can help address the physical bottlenecks now constraining AI compute scaling.
